How to crop an image into a circle
- Add a picture.
- Drag the square to choose the area. The circle shows what will be kept.
- Choose an output size, or leave it at the original.
- Press Make the circle and download the PNG.
Good to know
- The result is always a PNG with a transparent background outside the circle.
- 512 pixels is plenty for most profile picture uploads. Larger files just take longer to load.
- Sites that want a square upload will round it themselves. Use this only when you need the circle baked in.
Questions
Why is the file a PNG?
Only PNG can have transparent corners. A JPG would have to fill them with a solid colour.
Can I make an oval?
No, this always makes a circle. Use the crop tool for other shapes.
What size should a profile picture be?
Most sites accept anything from 400 to 1000 pixels square. 512 is a safe choice.
